This week, we're featuring 5 Coral Court, Byron Bay.
Designed by HGA Studio, this coastal residence sits quietly alongside Arakwal National Park, just moments from Tallow Beach. Rather than competing with its surroundings, the architecture allows the landscape to become the hero. Timber, limestone, concrete and micro-cement create a tactile, enduring palette, while expansive openings frame greenery, welcome natural light and encourage year-round indoor-outdoor living.
It's an approach known as biophilic design—the idea that our homes should strengthen our connection to nature rather than separate us from it.
Perhaps nowhere is this more relevant than Australia.
Our climate allows us to live with windows open, entertain outdoors for much of the year and create homes that dissolve the boundary between inside and outside. Increasingly, Australia's best architects are embracing these conditions, designing homes that respond to landscape, orientation and environment rather than imposing themselves upon them.
The result is architecture that feels inherently Australian.
Calm.
Grounded.
Timeless.
